Shirts and Skins

Since we arrived on campus, the senior basketball players have been coordinating five on five basketball games. There has been many players who have shown up to these open gyms, which has lead to the belief that there will be just under thirty players trying out for the basketball team this year. The open gyms have been a great way to get used to playing with each other and get some playing time in to tone up the on-court skills before the season begins. Not only are the open gyms a good way to get used to playing with each other, but they also are helping everyone get into shape. There is a winner's court and a loser's court; winner's are usually getting the most running in. The games are a fun, yet competitive, atmosphere that usually last for about two hours or until most people are tired or have to go for personal reasons. Although the open gyms aren't mandatory, it is a good thing to get out and play in them if you are at all interested in trying out for the team for this season. They are a good way to scope out your competition for the spot you will be competing for come try outs.

Some Will Make It, Some May not.

The lights don't officially turn on till October 15th!

October, 15th 2010. This date is special, it is one of a kind. It is the start of something new. It is something that many are excited about, and it is something that won't come fast enough. It is the start of the 2010-2011 Trinity University Men's Basketball season. Between now and then is a time where all those, who will be trying to play on the team this year, make their final push to put on more muscle and get into tip-top shape. Some have been there before and know what to expect, however, many of the incoming freshman don't have much of an idea about what will happen come the 15th. The only thing known is that there are more players than there are spots and we have to do all that we can in order to prepare ourselves to win the fight and secure one of those remaining spots. Some push themselves through solo workouts on the basketball court doing ball-handling drills. Some take the time to work on their inside shot or their outside jumper. Some hit the weight room to work on their agility and quickness or lift weights to become stronger. Most participate in the open gyms led by returning seniors to get everyone on the court for a couple hours and get some playing time in with each other. Everyone may be doing something different in regards to getting themselves ready for tryouts and the season, but we all have the same goal in common and that is making the team.
